Malom a valley town of Western Ghats
Malom is a small developed town which is the Commercial center of the Maloth village in kasaragod district.The name malom was originated from”Mahalokam”-known as “vast area”. Malom is located between two world famous hillstations in india which are Ranipuram and Kottanchery.Malom is also known for its cultural heritage .maloth is reffered in the history of many temples and kavus in kasaragod district. a Muslim theyyam is practiced in malom temple.Also many such cultural activites are done here.Maloth village have a population over 16000.
majority of them are farmers who lives in rural areas of the village. People living here are mainly hindus and christians.In the middle of twentyth century roman catholics migrated to here from pala and kottayam and established catholic churches in malom and nearby places like chittarikal,vellarikundu etc…Malom town have all the fecilities like shops,alopatic and ayurvedic hospitals ,schools,banks,Cultural centers,Telephone exchange,village office,post offices,digital studios,churches,temples ,mosque,fancy shops ,textiles,Work shops,fuel station and some small scale industries etc…Being a hillside town road transportation is the only mode of transportation avilable here,since there are no air and rail links.The project of “Hill-Highway” is passing through malom town .Bus services are avilable to near by towns like kanhangad,nileshwar,cherupuzha etc and to Major cities like cochin and mangalore .Jeep services are avilable to the rural areas of malom.The nearest rail station is at nileshwar(38 km)and airport is at mangalore(126 km).As a hilly village in western ghats Maloth have also got many tourist spots and resorts like Neelambari resots,Malom wild life santury,Maruthom tattu,Kerala-karnataka reserve forest ,Popular estate,misty hills of pullady,padayamkallu etc.Tourist destinations in kasaragod district like bekal fort , pallikara beach, nalandha resorts at Nileshwar,kammadam kavu etc are located around 50 kms of malom.Maloth village also share its border with karnataka state and many of the tourist sports in karnataka like Talacauvery, Coorg,Pushpagiri reserve etc are also very close to malom .One can hire Tourist taxis from malom town to visit these locations.The maloth village is very beautiful and eco friendly place where you can see the pure relation between nature and man.come take a visit to this place….
